Joining IFPS

November 6, 2009

Dear I F P S Members,

First, I would like to apologize for a relatively long time you have not been addressed from the IFPS officers. However, with some of you we have possibility to meet at CHoPS in Brisbane, Australia.

As you know the election of a new President and Vice-President of IFPS was realized this summer. It is a great honor for me to be elected as the 8th President of the IFPS. I would like to thank Haim Kalman for his effort and huge work to restart activity of IFPS during his presidency, after five years we had again opportunity to meet on our own IFPS Symposium, held in May 2009 at Istanbul.

I am very happy that Mark Jones was elected as Vice-President. I hope that with help of him and the other Directors we shall continue with increasing of the IFPS activity.

Thomas Marrera will continue in his thankless goal of treasurer, also George Klinzing and Haim Kalman promised to do their best for our society.

There are a number of tasks which we should do during next period. The most important is probably to increase the number of members and continue in the tradition of the independent IFPS Symposiums. The both priorities can't be done without the cooperation of the IFPS members and their active support for the benefit of the IFPS and for all of us.

The proper time to start preparation of the next Symposium is the end of the last one. In actual we shall prepare the 14th Symposium, since from the last independent one, the 9th IFPS Symposium held at Monterey in 1998, there were three Symposia joined successive with CHoPS at dead Sea in 2000, with Hydrotransport at Banf in 2002, and Transport & Sedimentation of Solid Particles at Prague in 2004). Thus, I encourage all of you to suggest a proper venue for the next IFPS Symposium in 2011 or 2012.

We should also try to support the possibility of IFPS members to take part of different conferences in topics of our interest, the pneumatic and hydraulic conveying, handling, and manipulation with particulate materials, and use these opportunities for IFPS members meetings as one of the steps of IFPS revitalization.

Sincerely,

Pavel Vlasak
